Design Period
If we talk about design period, so we can understand it's meaning by it's name. The word design period means the period taken for designing an structure. By designing a structure we can get a rough idea about it's durability, cost and many other engineering purpose values.
As explained above we can say that design period for water works is -
The
period for which water works are designed is known as design period.
Because water supply systems need huge constructions and
investments, it cannot be replaced easily and capacities can’t be increased
easily and conveniently for future expansions. In case of long design period
the cost of system is increased too much. So, design period should neither be
too short and nor too long.
Generally, design period is 20-30 years for water works
which is fairly good and sufficient. While deciding the design period, we
should know the factors
affecting the design period.
- The design period should not be more than the life of materials used in water supply system.
- The approximate expansion rate of town also affects the design period.
- Availability of funds also affects the design period.
