Classification of theodolite
There are two types of theodolites:
- Transit theodolite
- Non transit theodolite
Transit theodolite
Those theodolites in which the telescope can be rotated in a
complete revolution about its horizontal axis is called transit theodolite.
These theodolites are widely used now a days.
Non transit theodolite
Those theodolite in which telescope can’t be rotated about
its horizontal axis are called non transit theodolite.
These theodolites are used rarely or probably we can say
that these theodolites are obsolete now a days.
Theodolites
are also classified as Vernier theodolite and Micrometer theodolite.
Those theodolites in which verniers are fitted with the main
plate to read the graduated plate are called Vernier theodolite.
Similarly, those theodolites in which micrometers are fitted
to read the graduated plate are called micrometer theodolite.
